A dBC meter remains steady because the sub-bass is kept low, but the room feels packed with energy because of the live instrument.

Technical Strategies to Stay Under Venue Limits

Managing sound limits requires coordination between your entertainment, your production provider, and the venue staff. Use these technical strategies when planning your next corporate event or high-end wedding.

  • Go direct to the board: Traditional guitar players use loud stage amplifiers. For modern events, the guitarist should run their signal through a digital amp modeler directly into the mixing console. This gives the sound engineer total control over the volume.
  • Use In-Ear Monitors (IEMs): Traditional stage wedges bounce sound off the back walls, raising the ambient decibel level in the room. Utilizing in-ear monitors instead of stage wedges reduces stage volume to zero.
  • Place subwoofers strategically: Avoid placing subwoofers near the venue's decibel meter or on hollow wooden stages that vibrate and amplify low-end rumble.
  • Choose a multi-zone sound system: Instead of using two massive speakers at the front of the stage, use multiple smaller speakers distributed throughout the room. This delivers consistent sound to your guests without having to blast the audio from a single point.
